Calculate your cost per click

Calculate the average cost of each advertising click from total campaign spend and clicks.

Formula: Cost / Clicks

Last updated: September 14, 2026Method: Campaign cost / clicks

How to use the CPC calculator

Enter total ad spend and the number of clicks generated. CPC shows the average cost of each click. The optional target CPC lets you estimate the budget required to buy the same number of clicks at another planning rate.

CPC formula

CPC = Campaign cost / Clicks. If you spend $500 and generate 1,250 clicks, the average CPC is $0.40.

Example: 1,000 clicks

At a $0.50 CPC, 1,000 clicks cost $500. At a $1 CPC, they cost $1,000. A higher CPC can still be worthwhile when those clicks come from stronger intent and convert at a better rate.

Planning examples

These examples are mathematical scenarios designed to help with planning. They are not claims about typical market performance.

Clicks$0.25 CPC$0.50 CPC$1 CPC$2 CPC
100$25$50$100$200
500$125$250$500$1,000
1,000$250$500$1,000$2,000
5,000$1,250$2,500$5,000$10,000
10,000$2,500$5,000$10,000$20,000

What makes CPC useful?

CPC is useful when traffic is an important campaign objective, but it should not be optimized in isolation. Landing-page quality, conversion rate, average order value and customer lifetime value can make a more expensive click more profitable. The example CPC values above are planning scenarios, not universal benchmarks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPC?

There is no universal good CPC. It varies by platform, market, keyword, audience, competition and the value of the conversion.

How do I calculate clicks from budget and CPC?

Clicks = Budget / CPC. A $1,000 budget at a $0.50 CPC estimates to 2,000 clicks.

Why can CPC increase?

Competition, audience demand, placement, keyword intent, seasonality and ad quality can all affect click prices.

Is CPC the same as cost per conversion?

No. CPC is cost per click. CPA or cost per acquisition measures the cost of a completed conversion.
