bob knight death

Bob Knight, one of college basketball’s most successful coaches and one of the sport’s most divisive figures, has died at age 83, his family announced Wednesday.

The family did not immediately reveal the cause of death of the man who was Indiana University’s most famous coach from 1971 to 2000 and won three national championships there, including the team of the year 1976 was the most recent Division I men’s team to finish an undefeated season.

Knight died at his home in Bloomington, Indiana, surrounded by loved ones, his family announced on its website.
Besides winning on the field, Knight was also known for running a clean program – the majority of Knight’s players graduated and his teams were never placed on NCAA probation.

Nicknamed “The General,” Knight innovated the way coaches used a moving attack and emphasized strong man-to-man defense, while leading his team to 24 appearance in the NCAA Men’s Division I Tournament.

The four-time national coach of the year led Indiana to 11 Big Ten Conference titles and five Final Fours.
