A senior Hamas official was killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza in response to Saturday’s attack by Palestinian militants against the Jewish state.

The body of Hamas leader Ayman Younis was found in the rubble on Sunday after his home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza was bombed, the civil protection agency confirmed.

Israeli military aircraft have carried out attacks on targets of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, after a large-scale attack by Palestinian rebels in Israel left about 300 people dead. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by the EU, US and Israel.

So far, 313 people have been killed in Gaza in Israeli attacks since fighting began on Saturday, Gaza’s Hamas-run Health Ministry said. According to the statement, about 1,990 Palestinians were injured.
