70 year old woman gives birth to twins

A 70-year-old woman in Uganda has welcomed twins after undergoing fertility treatment, making her one of the world’s oldest mothers.

Safina Namukwaya gave birth to a baby boy and girl on November 29th. The cesarean section delivery took place at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Center in Kampala, the capital city, as confirmed by the center’s official statement.

According to Arthur Matsiko, a spokesperson for the fertility center, Namukwaya is in good health and actively engaged in conversation. She is even mobile, walking around the hospital as directed by the medical staff, demonstrating her recovery.

The hospital claims that Namukwaya is potentially the oldest mother in Africa. Her pregnancy was achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at the center. Due to her advanced age, the procedure utilized donor eggs and her partner’s sperm, as reported by the BBC.

Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, Namukwaya’s fertility specialist, revealed that the twins were born at 31 weeks, each weighing over 3 pounds. This remarkable story highlights the advances in reproductive technology and the potential for achieving successful pregnancies, even at an age considered unconventional for childbirth.
