what airlines are affected by the microsoft outage

Leading U.S. airlines, including Delta (DAL.N), United (UAL.O), and American (AAL.O), issued ground stops on Friday due to significant communication issues caused by a global outage disrupting various industries worldwide.

American Airlines later announced that it had resumed normal operations. Similarly, Frontier and Spirit airlines reversed their previous ground stop directives and resumed flights.

It remains unclear whether the flight cancellations and groundings reported by these major U.S. airlines are directly linked to the ongoing outages affecting Microsoft (MSFT.O) and cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. These outages have been impacting sectors such as banking, healthcare, and more.

Earlier, smaller airlines such as Frontier, Allegiant, and Sun Country (SNCY.O) reported operational disruptions. While American, Delta, and United, the top three U.S. carriers, had initially attributed the disruption to a technology issue with a third-party vendor without naming the vendor, Frontier specifically cited a “major Microsoft technical outage” as the cause of its temporary operational issues.

Allegiant Airlines also reported that its website was unavailable due to the Microsoft Azure outage. The airline has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for further comments.

As the situation develops, affected airlines and industries continue to work towards resolving the disruptions caused by the global IT outage.
