The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that the annual uprating for millions of Universal Credit recipients will be incorporated into their monthly payments starting May 14. However, a portion of beneficiaries will experience a delay, receiving the increased amount in their bank accounts from June 13.
This update was conveyed during a recent Money Box segment on BBC Radio 4 by program researcher Sandra Hardial. She discussed the setbacks in the implementation of augmented State Pension and benefit payments, despite the DWP’s application of the uplift on April 8.
Sandra clarified that Universal Credit payments will increase by 6.7 percent but cautioned that recipients will not immediately receive the additional funds due to the system’s arrears-based payment structure. She stated, “The six million individuals on Universal Credit will encounter the lengthiest wait. According to the DWP’s communication with Money Box, none of them will receive the elevated rate before May 14, and some may need to wait until June 13.”
