US Woman Duped into Buying Fake Jewelry Worth ₹6 Crore in Jaipur, Returns to India to File Complaint

Jaipur/Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, a US woman was swindled into purchasing artificial jewelry worth ₹300 for a staggering ₹6 crore by a shop owner in Rajasthan, according to police reports.

Cherish, a US citizen, acquired the gold-polished silver jewelry from a shop located in Johri Bazaar, Jaipur. The scam came to light when the jewelry was showcased at an exhibition in the US in April this year, where it was identified as fake.

Confrontation and Police Complaint

Upon discovering the fraud, Cherish flew back to India to confront the shop owner, Gaurav Soni. When Soni dismissed her allegations, Cherish filed a police complaint in Jaipur and sought assistance from the US embassy. The embassy has since urged Jaipur Police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Background of the Case

Cherish informed the police that she initially connected with Gaurav Soni via Instagram in 2022. Over the past two years, she has paid ₹6 crore for what she believed were genuine gold ornaments.

Ongoing Investigation

Police officials have launched a search for Gaurav Soni and his father, Rajendra Soni, both of whom are currently on the run.

This incident highlights the critical need for vigilance in verifying the authenticity of high-value purchases. Authorities are actively pursuing the case to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent such fraudulent practices in the future.
