Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a 33-year-old Guatemalan citizen, has been charged with murder following the death of a woman who was set on fire aboard a New York subway car, federal officials reported.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Zapeta-Calil was detained by New York police on Sunday in connection with the attack that occurred the same day.

ICE revealed that Zapeta-Calil had previously entered the U.S. unlawfully near Sonoita, Arizona, on June 1, 2018. He was deported back to Guatemala on June 7, 2018.

It remains unclear when or where Zapeta-Calil re-entered the U.S. unlawfully, ICE stated.
