Luis Rubiales will step down as Spain’s football director after coming under increasing pressure following the kissing scandal at the Women’s World Cup.

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, in office since 2018, has just publicly announced his resignation in an interview with Piers Morgan, who wonders whether the reaction will become too great to ignore. Are not.

Rubiales realized that his defiant attitude was now starting to affect others and the entire organization, and that he was becoming a distraction…so he quit.

He maintains his innocence – as he has from the start – but says trying to maintain his position has proved more trouble than it’s worth. After a clip of Piers’ session was published, he took to Twitter to confirm that he had handed over temporary reins to Prez.

In his lengthy statement, Rubiales said he plans to defend his honor in the face of continued consequences. This, of course, seems to refer to the criminal complaint filed by soccer player Jennifer Hermoso herself to Spanish authorities for sexual assault.
