Video : 8 Dead, 40 Injured in Migrant Bus Crash on SR-40 Marion County Florida
DUNNELLON, Fla. (WCJB) – Law enforcement has closed a major roadway in Marion County in response to a fatal crash involving a bus on Tuesday morning. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a bus carrying 53 individuals, including migrant workers, was traveling on State Road 40 between Ocala and Dunnellon. The bus collided with a pickup truck under circumstances yet to be determined, causing it to veer off the road and overturn.
Troopers report that the bus was en route to a watermelon farm. Tragically, eight individuals lost their lives in the collision, while eight others are in critical condition. Additionally, 37 individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. To assist with transportation, authorities utilized a Marion County Public Schools bus, although no students were involved or harmed in the incident.
