Video : florida surgeon liver spleen
A tragic medical mistake claimed the life of William Bryan, a 70-year-old Alabama man, while on vacation in Florida. According to his family, Bryan passed away on the operating table after a surgeon accidentally removed his liver instead of his spleen.
The incident occurred last month when Bryan, visiting the Florida Panhandle, began experiencing severe pain in his lower left abdomen. He and his wife, Beverly, sought medical help at Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital, located between Pensacola and Panama City.
After identifying a possible issue with Bryan’s spleen, doctors admitted him for further tests. General Surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christopher Bacani advised Bryan to undergo emergency surgery, warning him of potentially serious complications if he delayed the procedure.
Despite their efforts, the surgery led to an “immediate, catastrophic death,” as the wrong organ was removed, according to the family’s legal representatives, Zarzaur Law P.A., who shared details of the case in a Facebook post.
